Honley Theakers

Located on this page is information about Theakers who lived and died in Honley. The bulk of the information here is courtesy of Glynn Burhouse, who has kindly allowed me to filch from his site which is at http://www.honley.ukf.net/index.htm .

One of the persons that have contacted me is Melanie Theaker. I think that I have managed to trace her line back to a Benjamin Theaker who was born in Honley. Glynn also tells me that he has Theakers in his tree so perhaps he and Melanie are related. The fact that there are only two Heads of Household that are Theakers may mean that their roots are elsewhere.

Moorbottom Chapel Inscriptions

Methodist Independent Church or Congregational Chapel. 
The cemetery is across the road from the chapel, alongside what is now the Scout Hut, few stones remain and some wish those that do be removed. These stones are laid flat and are of a size and weight that must have required 6 or 8 people to lift them .

To the Memory of 
Joseph Theaker of Honley 
Died March 16th 1857 aged 71 years 
Also Martha wife of the above 
Who died February 22nd 1863 aged 68 years 

An area in the cemetery has been set aside for those who have been cremated. In the main they comprise names plus the year of birth and death though some contain additional information which is shown. For those of you wishing to visit the cemetery they are located at the bottom left hand side. Under notes B. is born and D. is died followed by day and month. Under Row eg 006010 indicates Row 6 Plot 10, there are 15 rows at present.
