A Tribute to my Father by Mona Timmis |
Mona Timmis nee Theaker is looking for
living relatives - there must surely be some around! Mona's grandad was
William Theaker who was a was a sidesman at the church in Brigg. William
married and produced the following children ----- Harry, Charles,
Sidney, Fred, Olive, Priscilla, Harold and one more sister she cannot
recall the name of. Mona's dad ( Harry ) started his life in Brigg in
1891 and then they came to live in York Avenue in Lincoln. Charles
was a plasterer, Fred was a regular in the Infantry, Harold was in the
Lancers just for the duration of the first world war, Harry was a
regular in the RHA, Olive and the unremembered sister went to live in
Rotherham and Priscilla lived in Lincoln and married Bill Thursby.
Mona would love to hear from anyone who who knows of any family members who were born towards the back end of the 1800s or at the beginning of the 1900s. |

The above are Mona's grandparents with their children as at the 1901 census. The bottom entry, for Martha, was at a different address but Martha is the only other Theaker born in Scawby so it looks likely she is another aunt of Mona, especially as Mona's Gran was also called Martha. |

What follows has been written by Mona as a tribute to her father Harry Theaker. Mona would love to hear from anyone who thinks that they may be related to Harry.

Dad was born in 1891 and lived in Lincolnshire. I know very little about his childhood, I wasn't around then, but I know he joined the RHA by putting up his age when he was fourteen. He served in India and the NW part, Kashmir and Nepal as far as I can say, this was of course, all hearsay when he was telling me stories and nowadays I realise some of those stories had a large pinch of salt added. He came back to Europe and served on France during WW1 and there he got his medals. He was serving in Lincoln when he met my Mum, and the result of that is me. When he came out of the army he was in the Terriers but his main job was a builder and tiler. He did this until 1939 when he went to be a boiler attendant in a foundry called Ruston and Hornsby, there he stayed until he retired at 65. Poor old dad had little retirement because he died at 66 from lung cancer.
